Examples of the “do-it-yourself” stock index

Here are some concrete examples of do-it-yourself indices. Please remember that these examples are not recommendations or advice by Obermatt. They serve only as illustrations for how the Obermatt stock screener and analysis could be used.

The first step

For any of the following custom stock index examples, first select a group of stocks. This could be several countries or sub-segments of countries, such as the largest 100 shares of a country. You select the group of stocks in the first box called “1. Select groups of stocks”. If you wish, you can also add individual stocks in the second box called “2. Add individual stocks (optional)”.

The sum of both the stock groups and the individually selected stocks are the “universe” for your stock screening and analysis. This universe of stocks is evaluated using your selected investment criteria. This provides the underlying investment strategy of your index and the list of suggested stocks for your index. Below are sample indices for illustrative purposes only:

Value-Index

Strategy: Buy shares with low valuations

  1. Select groups of shares (one or several countries or subgroups of countries)
  2. Select investment criterion Low P/E
  3. Click “Show result”. The higher the combined rank, the better the stock
